Installing ICS on Samsung Galaxy Gio (Only For Pro)


Latest operating system released by Google, but it seems samsung Gio (GT-S5660) will not be updated to the ice cream sandwich by samsung.
However, because of the project between 9 CyanogenMod GalaxyICS and Gio finally get to taste samsung ics cream sandwich (ICS).
if you ever operate the device with a built-native operating system ICS, you may want to operate samsung Gio (GT-S5660) with your operating system custome ICS.
 

There are some bugs in the custome ice cream sandwich that has been released, among others:

  1. Camera, sometimes can sometimes can not, but certainly can not preview camera (can be fixed with this patch 100% working, flash it via CWM)
  2. Tethering wifi, can not be used

Requirement :

  1. Rooted samsung galaxy gio (GT-S5660), if you don't know how  to root your phone visit this
  2. Please be sure your battery level is > 70%

How To :

  1.  Download special ClockworkMod Recovery image for CyanogenMod 9, get the image from here (px-cwm-v2.zip, filesize : 7,298 KB)
  2. Copy px-cwm-v2.zip to your root's sd card
  3. Reboot your phone into recovery mode by holding down (press) Home button (middle) as you turn on your phone using the Power button. In recovery mode, use the Volume buttons for navigation and the Home/OK button for selecting.
  4. From the recovery menu, select Install zip from sdcard > Choose zip from sdcard, select px-cwm-v2.zip, and confirm that you want to flash the file.  Reboot your phone afterwards.
  5. Go to the maclaw website.  Click the Download link. Click the “Select” button for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660.  Click the “Releases” button.  Download the latest version of CyanogenMod 9 for the Galaxy Gio.  (As of this writing, current version is Nightly for Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 (13 May 2012)cm_gio-ota-eng.13052012.zip, 128 MB)
  6. Connect your Galaxy Gio to your PC via USB cable.
  7. Copy the ROM package to the root of your phone’s SD card.
  8. Disconnect your phone from your PC.
  9. Switch off your phone.
  10. Reboot your phone into recovery mode as in step 3.
  11. From the recovery menu, select Install zip from sdcard > Choose zip from sdcard, select the ROM package file, and confirm that you want to flash the file.   It may take 5-10 minutes for the installation process to finish.
  12. Return to main recovery menu.
  13. Select “Wipe data / factory reset“ and confirm the operation on the screen that follows.
  14. Select “Go Back” to head back to the main menu.
  15. Select “Reboot system now” to reboot your phone.

Issues :

if you have problem with wifi, maybe you can try patch here (wifi_fix_galaxyics.zip, 315 KB), if you wanna to install that patch just follow step no 3 - 4.

Congratulation !! You have successfully installed CyanogenMod 9 with Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich on your Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660.
